PLK is the stage name of Mathieu Pruski, a French rapper born on April 15, 1997, in Paris. He grew up in the 14th arrondissement of Paris before moving to Clamart in the Hauts-de-Seine department, where he was raised primarily by his paternal grandmother. His father is of Polish origin — hence the stage name — and his mother is of Corsican descent, giving PLK a bicultural background that he references in his music and public identity.

He began writing lyrics at age nine and started recording his own tracks by 13. His early training came through open mics and freestyle sessions alongside Ormaz and Zeu in the collective that would become La Confrérie, later part of the broader Panama Bende collective. PLK stands for Polak, a French slang term for Polish people. His father, who immigrated to France (as did his grandfather before him), was nicknamed “Polak” in the Clamart housing estate where he grew up. His second mixtape Platinum (2018) brought his first viral singles, including “Pas les mêmes” and “Dis-moi oui,” accumulating over 20 million streams.

The breakthrough came with his debut album Polak, released on October 5, 2018. The album featured collaborations with SCH, Nekfeu, and Polish rapper Paluch, peaked at #6 in France, and was eventually certified triple platinum. The track “Lambo” (with Mister V) was used in the soundtrack of Taxi 5, giving PLK his first mainstream film exposure.

His mixtape Mental (September 2019) confirmed the breakthrough. The singles “Problèmes” and “Un peu de haine” became diamond-certified, and the project’s success led to a Zénith tour across France. In August 2020, his second album Enna was certified platinum within 52 days and became his biggest commercial success, reaching #2 in France and eventually achieving diamond certification.
